Dagmar, otherwise known as Kirsten (or me), hiked from West Virginia to Maine from May to September of 2015.
The world of long distance hiking was new to me as I first stepped on the Appalachian Trail. I had done numerous miles (or kilometers since I am Canadian) on trails in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and even British Columbia but I had never gone out for more than a day. I had read everything I could get my hands on from factual texts of how to, gear books, and personal tales. Nothing prepared me for the reality but everything was valuable.
I am planning on heading out again come this August 2017 as I want to cover the miles from West Virginia to Georgia.
I am incredibly lucky to have great support from friends & family. I even have a great companion Doug in Minneapolis who creates and sends me out food boxes. But the problem with long distance hiking is that it becomes a addicting habit that you need to be creative about fundraising. I have done calendars, pottery mugs and other items as fundraisers.
